Experienced Across Settings

  • School Experience

I currently work full time in a school district and have experience providing school services as a behavior analyst in grades K-12. The majority of my work within the school setting includes conducting FBAs, determining qualification(s) for PBSPs, developing PBSPs, training staff on PBSPs, attending IEP meetings, completing staff and student observations, and consulting with staff to ensure ongoing support.

  • Clinic Experience

I have 5+ years of experience in the clinic setting, both as a BCBA and an RBT. In the clinic setting I have worked beyond the clinic and frequently travelled into homes or community settings to support clients. The clients I have worked with had an age range from 2-30 years. The majority of my work in this setting included conducting assessments such as PEAK, VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, AFLS, and FBAs. It also included developing treatments plans, conducting staff and caregiver trainings, and communicating with insurance companies.

  • Equine Experience

While I have about 23 years of equine experience, I have about 6 years of experience training horses, and 4+ years of experience training horses and working with owners through behavior analysis. I find that even those supervisees who are not interested in working with horses, it is beneficial for them to experience this delivery model of behavior analysis - as it has less to do with the horse, and more to do with training owners/handlers. This is beneficial because that is what most BCBAs spend their time doing - training others to implement our plans!

FAQs

  • Four words. Autonomy, independence, acceptance, and assent. We want those we are working with to be as autonomous as possible while we promote independence and acceptance, and teach using assent-based practices.

  • Without question. Trauma-informed care recognizes how trauma affects the brain. Hyperactivity in the lower areas of the brain - the amygdala and hippocampus - overrides the prefrontal cortex, which is in charge of rational choices and modulating emotional responses. This keeps a person in survival mode, even after the danger has passed. To practice ABA without considering this is to practice unethical and faulty ABA.

  • I think so. I often work to include feminist and anti-racist materials in any materials I produce. I also work to be as inclusive in as many communities as I can to support them. Shadowed Behavior has recently sponsored Pride in our area, and has donated to benefit families who are victims of genocide.

  • I am here to teach you. I am not going to belittle you or make you feel inferior. I love behavior analysis and I love teaching people about behavior analysis. Let’s get started!
